Reading Curriculum

Being able to read is the golden key to success at school and in life. The ability to read provides motivation and builds self-confidence. Our vision is for all our children to develop a love of reading and become life-long readers through a fostered sense of reading.

"The school has made reading a high priority. It has selected a range of books and authors that reflect the diversity of pupils in the school. This helps pupils to feel well represented and included."

V.I.P.E.R.S (Vocabulary, Inference, Predict, Explain, Retrieve and Summarise/Sequence) is an acronym to aid the recall of the 6 reading domains as part of the UK’s reading curriculum. They are the key areas which we feel children need to know and understand in order to improve their comprehension of texts. Please click here for the full guide with questions to support comprehension in Years 2-6.
