Science Judging Panel

October 31, 2017 by Ellie Linton

A group of Year 6 children met Miss Greenway on a weekly basis to judge some of the very latest science books that have been published. Six books were shortlisted for the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize 2017.  The children had the opportunity to look at the books and judge them on their appeal, layout, interest and understanding of the topic. The children voted ‘Home Lab: Exciting Experiments for Budding Scientists’ by Robert Winston as their favourite. Our school was chosen, along with 1,000 young people from across the UK to help select the winning book. The results have now been submitted and we look forward to finding out which book will be chosen by the Royal Society as the winner for 2017.

Here are some comments about the books from our Oswald Road Judges:

If…A Mind-Bending Way of Looking at Big Ideas and Numbers- “I really like the way it compared different sizes.”
First Book of Animals- “I really liked the detailed illustrations. They looked hand drawn.”
100 Things to Know About Space- “I like the way this book is set out.”
