Year 5 Updates
Year 5 had a FANTASTIC day yesterday learning all about the Vikings in their Portals to the Past workshop! We even got to have a go at holding a chain mail vest….which weighs a whopping 22 kgs!! Magnificent Miss Davis was able to hold it at arm’s length…strong teacher! You can see all the photos from the workshop by clicking here.
Year 5 had a great time taking part in The Movie Workshop last week. They learnt how to use a green screen to film their own weather reports, to put themselves in the middle of the desert, and even to create the illusion of a floating head!
Pupils from 5WM have been putting their hospitality skills to use on a trip with Southway Housing Trust. The children visited one of the Trust’s green spaces in Chorlton to see what wildlife they could spot, and worked together to build their own bug hotels and hedgehog houses.
The handmade homes have now been brought back into school, where they will be set up in the playground to encourage more wildlife onto the school grounds. Hopefully the local Chorlton critters will be impressed with their new constructed digs!
Last term BBC School Radio came in to record some of our Year 5 children for their programme ‘Something to Think About’. The children were asked questions relating to a variety of topic, including Ramadan and long summer evenings, and finished the recording by reciting a number ‘all faiths and none’ prayers. The first episode that the children feature in is all about the Great Fire of London, and they were asked to talk about something they have lost that was important to them, and how this made them feel. You can listen to the episode in full by clicking here.
MUSICIANS ROCK AT SCHOOL CONCERT
On Friday afternoon musical pupils from Oswald Road Primary School put on a show-stopping concert for parents and their fellow classmates. The talented musicians included guitarists, trumpeters, violinists, vocalists, and one very talented pianist. There were also groups of children playing the balalaika and the steel pans.

ST GEORGE’S DAY SPECTACULAR!
Today we celebrated St George’s Day by creating a huge St George’s flag in the playground, made up of pupils and teachers from Oswald Road. Year 6 pupils Cosmo and Edwin have also been busy making deliciously patriotic cupcakes!
SPORT RELIEF 2016 HIGHLIGHTS
Children at Oswald Road School fundraised themselves proud on Friday 18th March. The day started with an energetic whole school 5 a day activity in every classroom. In addition, children took part in a dynamic Duck and Dive dodgeball competition in which they played against house teams. Children had a great time and their sports themed costumes added to the excitement of the day.
