OSWALD ROAD POST OFFICE!
Harkitan and Sophia from 3SE have been learning all about the Post Office in their maths sessions with Miss Caradine. Elliot from 3CD has been demonstrating his nursing credentials by bringing in his first aid kit to school. The aspiring nurse is keen to be a first aid helper at lunchtime, saying that he wants to use his skills to help his fellow pupils.
Elliot explained: “When I was five I got a toy first aid kit, and then when I was seven I went to a medical school, where I learnt how to do lots of things. Now I’m old enough to have a real first aid kit, so I asked for one for Christmas last year. When I’m older I want to be a nurse.”
We think Elliot has shown great initiative and ambition, and will make a great nurse when he grows up!
Year 3 have been working out fractions of amounts by using Cheerios this week. The children work out how many groups of Cheerios they need by looking at the denominator, then the numerator tells them how many groups they need to count! Very tricky work but a few little breakfast O’s helped!
Last term Year 3 learnt about the Romans, and one of their lessons was to create colours and dye materials just like the Romans did, using natural dyes made of vegetables. One of the parents, Mrs Bell, came in to work with the children on dying square pieces of materials using crushed up plants. Each child was given a Roman numeral to put on their square of dyed material and then Mrs Bell sewed them all together into a Roman numeral 100 number square, which will be hung up in the Year 3 area. Great work everyone!
Pupils from Oswald Road Primary School got into the Olympic spirit early in advance of this summer’s Rio Games when they were joined by two former Olympians for a Greater Manchester Walking festival event.
