Year 2, your amazing weather homework has brought a ray of sunshine to the school office this week- thank you so much for bringing it in to show us! Mrs Howard had a look at it when she came in to school to visit, and was amazed at how hard you have all worked.
Yesterday children from Year 2 took part in their very own bake off. The challenge was to make 90 cupcakes in just 90 minutes. Before they started their bakes, each class had to go through their ingredients list to decide how much of each ingredient they would need to make their delicious chocolate chip cupcakes. Following the rather messy task of measuring and mixing the cakes were baked in the oven, and after giving them a little time to cool down, the children headed out to the Chill Zone to sample their culinary creations. Well done, everyone- you’re all star bakers for this week!
Year 2 have brought in some fantastic homework for their ‘Wild Thing’ topic. From real life fox skulls, to handmade wolf masks, the children have really shown off their wildly creative sides! Click here to see their magnificent creations.
MY LIFE IN YEAR 2
Friedl from 2SF has made this incredible video all about her time in Year 2. Well done, Friedl!
DISCOVERING LIFE UNDER THE SEA
At the end of last term Year 2 visited the Sea Life Centre in Manchester, as part of their exciting ‘Under the Sea’ topic. The children got to see (and even touch!) a variety of creatures, including sharks, stingrays and starfish.

Staff and pupils at Oswald Road Primary School donned their best emerald outfits yesterday to celebrate all things eco for ‘Green Day’. Pupils were asked to wear green and bring in a donation towards the school’s Owl Garden.
2SF BLOG POST: BOATS
On Wednesday and Thursday last week our class made boats. Our mission was to design and make a boat that would float on water and carry a Lego figure as a passenger. We had to think carefully about what we used to make our boats. We thought about what we had learnt in science when we learnt about the properties of materials. Most of our class used plastic for the base of their boat.
Plastic was a good choice because it is waterproof and it floats on water. Most of our boats had a mast and a flag. We filled a paddling pool with clean, transparent water and tested our designs. We were pleased with the results– 2SF
UPCOMING TRIP: SEA LIFE CENTRE
As part of our ‘Under the Sea’ topic, we have arranged for the children to visit the Sea Life Centre at the Trafford Centre. The classes will visit on different days so that they have opportunities to ‘see’ everything and take part in some exciting workshops. 2KW will visit on Tuesday 24th May, 2SF will visit on Wednesday 25th May and 2FM will visit on Thursday 26th May. We will be travelling there and back on the bus and will leave school after morning registration and return in time for the end of the school day.
UNDER THE SEA!
Year 2s have really been enjoying their ‘Under the Sea’ topic, and have created some fantastic pieces of homework to show it.
One of the highlights was a life-size poster of an orca, which was painted by Evan from 2FM. The poster was so big that it took ten children to hold it up for a photograph!
Other fabulous creations included a scrummy ocean cake, which was baked by Luke from 2SF, and an impressive hammerhead shark, made by Connie in 2SF.
Great work everyone, you really brought the magic of the underwater world to life!
ST GEORGE’S DAY SPECTACULAR!
Today we celebrated St George’s Day by creating a huge St George’s flag in the playground, made up of pupils and teachers from Oswald Road. Year 6 pupils Cosmo and Edwin have also been busy making deliciously patriotic cupcakes!
2FM have been learning how to write letters giving their opinion, and have written some fantastic letters to the CEO of Seaworld about orca shows. Lucy and Gloria have shown great use of rhetorical questions to put across their points effectively!
YEAR 2 EASTER ISLAND HOMEWORK
Year 2 have been learning about Easter Island, and have handed in some fantastic homework on it- from sculptures, to maps, to fun facts!
Mrs Howard said: “Year 2, I am so impressed with your Easter Island homework! What a creative and committed bunch you are!”
SPORT RELIEF 2016 HIGHLIGHTS
Children at Oswald Road School fundraised themselves proud on Friday 18th March. The day started with an energetic whole school 5 a day activity in every classroom. In addition, children took part in a dynamic Duck and Dive dodgeball competition in which they played against house teams. Children had a great time and their sports themed costumes added to the excitement of the day.
