Parking Outside School
May 8, 2017 by Ellie Linton
It has been brought to our attention that some parents are unaware of the rules and regulations regarding parking restrictions outside school. I am therefore writing to make all parents aware of the rules, as we are currently receiving multiple complaints a week about the safety risk posed by illegal parking along the roads surrounding the school.
The yellow zig zag lines outside our school have signs listing hours of operation. No cars are to park, or wait with their engines running, on the zig zag lines or the single yellow lines that run between the zig zags (see image left) between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Anyone found in breach of this will be enforced legally by the local council, who make use of camera cars, CCTV or parking wardens to issue a penalty charge notice.
Double yellow lines indicate no stopping at any time. These can be found on the corners of junctions (see image left), and are put in place to prevent dangerous parking and ensure that the visibility of both drivers and pedestrians is not obstructed.
No cars are to park, or wait, on the single yellow lines that run along the opposite side of the road to the school building (see image left) between the hours of 8:00am-9:30am, 3:00pm-4:30pm on Monday-Friday.
Blue Badge Holders
Disability badge holders cannot park on the zig zag lines, or the single yellow lines that run between the zig zags, between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. They can, however, park on the single yellow lines that run on the opposite side of the road to the school building.
These rules are in place to ensure the safety of children and their families when walking to and from school. Parking your car, waiting with the engine on, or stopping quickly to let your child jump out of the car in a restricted area obstructs the view of those trying to cross the road, particularly small children who are still getting to grips with how to cross the road safely.
Can I also take this opportunity to remind parents that the staff carpark is not to be used by parents and carers- it is for staff and school visitors only. We would also like to emphasise the importance of driving carefully around school, as there have been a number of complaints of erratic driving, and this can be very dangerous when children are trying to cross the road safely.
Now that these rules have been clearly explained, we expect all parents at Oswald Road to adhere to them. Anyone found to be parking in a restricted area during the times listed above will have their car photographed or registration plate noted down, and we will be passing your details onto the council. If you would like clarification on any of the above, please contact the school office.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
